Gadgets. Gizmos. Whatchamacallits. Whatever you call them, kitchen tools are fun and they make food prep a breeze. There are a plethora of options to choose from and each handy device can change your life in a way you never expected.
Equipping your vegan kitchen with useful tools can make eating a healthy, plant-based diet that much easier. Gadgets cut down on prep time and can also help you transform your food into a meal that you just wouldn’t be able to do by hand.
I’ve compiled this list of vegan kitchen tools that I just can’t live without! They may not be these crazy new inventions but their simplicity is what makes them everyday essentials for any plant-based kitchen.
I have always had the hardest time using manual can openers. They always get stuck about halfway around so I find myself just chopping the can the rest of the way open by opening and closing the can opener. Ugh…
I finally sprang for a handheld electric can opener and I am never going back! What I love about this can opener is that I simply set it on top of the can, push a button, and watch it go! It takes maybe 20 seconds so I can be doing something else in that time, also.
A while back I wrote a review of the Ninja blender I currently have and I still love it just as much. It’s also a lot less expensive than other high-powered blenders on the market. I know these bad boys can be pricey so if a standard-powered blender is more in your price range, go for that. A blender really is one of the most important kitchen tools for vegans so make sure you have one!
I used to think salad spinners were unnecessary. I even bought one, just to return it shortly after because I didn’t see the point. Now that I’m eating a lot more salads though, I totally get it! No longer am I rinsing my lettuce and drying it with paper towels (that never works too well anyway).
The beauty of adding a salad spinner to your arsenal of vegan kitchen tools is that it completely dries your lettuce so you’re not eating soggy salads. I’ll even use it to rinse beans if my colander is in the dishwasher.
Use them as salad bowls to easily mix your greens without spilling. Use them as food bowls for all those large vegan meals we eat. Use them as fruit bowls to leave on the counter and contain your fresh fruits and veggies. Use them as mixing bowls when you make vegan chocolate chip cookies.
I could go on but I think you get the point. Large bowls are another plant-based kitchen essential that come in handy for so much. They’re a versatile necessity for any vegan kitchen.
Make sure you spring for the full knife set. Think about it, you can’t cut open a watermelon with a paring knife, and you can’t skin a potato with a chef’s knife. Well not properly anyways.
Ok, Ok. I know this one isn’t really a gadget but this stuff is so handy! I love parchment paper because I can bake cookies, potatoes, or anything and it won’t stick. I also love knowing that my food doesn’t absorb the harmful chemicals from my non-stick baking sheets (which are definitely not “non-stick”).
On top of all that, after my food comes out of the oven, I just slip the parchment paper off the baking sheet into the trash and cleanup is done!
While you don’t have to buy these kitchen tools to be a healthy vegan who makes amazing food, they sure do help. We all make different food, so we will all find different tools useful. I recommend slowly acquiring the gadgets that will have the most impact in your vegan kitchen.
