Have you ever felt like your life is all just go go go with no time to really care for yourself? That’s how I’d been feeling lately. Especially when it came to my morning routine.
From the second I woke up, the next hour and fifteen minutes was me rushing to get ready and out the door. Not a minute to spare to just sit and be.
Feeling like this wasn’t setting me up for the peaceful days I longed to have, I decided to make a change. For me, it was incorporating more self care into my routine.

My ideal morning routine
I thought about what an ideal morning would look like for me. Meditation, calm lighting, self affirmations, and most of all no rushing.
The most important thing for me, though, was not having to wake up any earlier than I already do. So I had to somehow incorporate all these wonderful ideas in the the hour and fifteen minutes I was already fully using up!
4 steps to change my morning routine
Having come up with 4 things to add to my morning routine to set the tone for a peaceful and self love-filled day, I decided to break each of them up into 4 separate weeks and incorporate one each week until I was doing all 4.
By only adding one each week, I gave myself time to work it into my routine without feeling overwhelmed. It really worked!
My bathroom has bright lights and a very loud fan, which were so jarring for me two minutes after I wake up. Wanting to avoid having to turn them on right away, I started lighting a candle instead.
Showering by candlelight allows for my body to slowly wake up without the harsh lighting and noisy fan. Once I’m out of the shower and more awake, I then turn the lights and fan on.
Making this one small change completely altered the tone of my morning routine.
No rushing to get ready
The candle was one small change that didn’t take away time. But all the other changes I wanted to make would definitely force me to shorten the amount of time it took me to get ready.
I shortened my routine by:
– Picking out my outfit the night before
– Putting the water I drink while I get ready in the bathroom the night before
– Finding faster ways to do my makeup and hair
These 3 tweaks saved me about 10 minutes, which is just what I needed for the next two changes.
Positive affirmations are a great way to bring more positivity into your life. And since that’s what I was looking for, I decided to take a couple minutes in the morning to repeat a few affirmations.
Some of my favorites have been:
– “I am free of worry and am at peace with who I am”
– “I choose to be happy and completely love myself today”
– “I am worthy of achieving my dreams”
It felt a bit strange at first but it’s starting to feel real and I’m really starting to believe what I’m saying.
Taking time to meditate in the morning was so important for me because I am one of those people who tends to jump right into things and not stop. I even noticed I would start asking myself in the morning, “What do I need to worry about today?”. NOT GOOD!
Morning meditation forces me to clear my mind and focus on positivity, not on worrying or negative thoughts. Sometimes I will even meditate on one of my self affirmations.
I noticed a huge shift in my outlook on the day just by taking 5 minutes to meditate in the morning.
Making these 4 small changes brought a huge change to my morning and my entire day.
Having experienced this shift, I became inspired to help others bring more positivity into their day so I created the Positive Life Change Workbook, an 8-page guide that will walk you through the steps to make a lasting positive change in your life in just 4 weeks!
This workbook puts into writing the same steps I used to change my morning routine!
I created this workbook out of love and desire to help others so I truly hope you find it valuable.
