Netflix has just added “the health film that health organizations don’t want you to see,” as described by the filmmakers, Kip Andersen and Keegan Kuhn. What the Health gives an eye opening account of the relationship between diet and health.
“What the Health is the groundbreaking follow-up film from the creators of the award-winning documentary Cowspiracy,” according to the film’s website. “The film follows intrepid filmmaker Andersen as he uncovers the secret to preventing and even reversing chronic diseases – and investigates why the nation’s leading health organizations don’t want us to know about it.”
The investigative documentary calls out organizations like American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, and Susan G. Komen for accepting money from companies including Dannon, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Tyson, which sell foods proven to increase chances of cancer, diabetes, heart disease and many other diseases. “This would be like the American Lung Association taking money from the tobacco industry,” says Andersen in the film.
An impressive number of physicians and experts feed into the film including:
- Dr. Milton Mills, Critical Care Physician
- Dr. Garth Davis, Weight Loss Surgeon, The Davis Clinic
- Michele Simon, Public Health Lawyer, Author
- Dr. Neal Barnard, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine
- Kimberly Snyder, Certified Nutritionist, NYT Best-seller
- Dr. Michael Klaper, Physician, Author
- Dr. Michael Greger, Psysician, Author, NutritionFacts.org
- Dr. Michelle McMacken, Assistant Professor of Medicine, NYU
“With the help of medical doctors, researchers, and consumer advocates, What the Health exposes the collusion and corruption in government and big business that is costing us trillions of healthcare dollars, and keeping us sick,” according to the film’s website.
Study after study shared throughout the film confirms the relationship between animal products and deadly diseases, as well as the relationship between a plant-based diet and a healthier life.
In the film, we meet a few people who have struggled with serious ailments, for which their doctors have prescribed bottles and bottles of medication that they are told they will be on for the rest of their life. After just a couple weeks on a plant-based diet, these people are visibly healthier and off most (if not all) of their medications.
This enlightening film is a must-see.
